Day 12 Meek Matthew 5:4

We live in a driven society. People will do almost anything to get ahead. We have seen in our economic crisis that people were taking millions of dollars because they felt entitled to it. It didn't matter what affect it had on the regular everyday person. In many cases the rich got richer and the poor got poorer.

As God's children we are promised the inheritance that Christ gives. We will receive major blessings upon blessings. But it has to be in God's timing not ours. When David was anointed by Samuel as the next king of Israel he didn't rush in and claim the right. David went back to tending the sheep where he was refined by God. If God is calling us to a major move in our life, wait upon Him. The meek person knows that there is a time between the anointing and the appointing.

God's promises are true and He will come through. We need to sit still and allow God to mold us and refine us as we wait for the inheritance. Don't rush it,the God of all creation knows what He is doing. Those who wait upon the Lord (in meekness) will renew their strength.

  1. Meekness is having patience and peace in adverse situations &/or just waiting for the right timing for an opportunity to come to full fruition. Being meek does not desire retaliation when someone has wronged you. It is trusting God to handle situations for you, following the Matthew 5:44-45 principle of allowing God to take care of your enemies, while you pray for them and love them. It is a condition of the heart and mind that trusts God enough to handle situations for you and to work character in your life in the midst of difficulty. Meekness is in short order in our world today.

The Bible tells us in Matthew 6:33 to seek the kingdom of God, first and foremost. Deuteronomy 6:5 and Luke 10:27 tell us to 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind.'

You have to go through difficult situations and circumstances in order for God to build character in you. If you will enter tough times with the right mind and a heart set on pleasing God, He will be able to transform you into an amazing witness of His character shining through you! You can stand tall like a deep rooted oak in the midst of a hurricane!

None of us can say we have “arrived” – it is a process, a journey that will take a lifetime to complete. We will all have plenty of opportunities to “perfect” our responses by refocusing our attention (off ourselves and on Him). We should journey together, to support and encourage each other as well hold each other accountable. Come -- NJ
